T

he Jewish Foundation for Education of Women has over 9000 alumnae, all recipients of scholarships in the years since 1939. Many of our alumnae keep in touch with JFEW, giving us the satisfaction of knowing how our scholarships have helped these women to become successful and to make a difference in the world.

Our alumnae include many women of great distinction in a wide range of business, professional and artistic fields. Here is a very small sampling:
Education: Beth Weitzman is professor of Health and Public Policy at NYU's Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service. Her research is on urban families and youth living in poverty.
Jewish affairs: Marcia Freedman, a founder and leader of the Israeli feminist movement, served in the Israeli Knesset for four years, pioneered a network of services for women, and helped create the Community School for Women's Studies and Economic Development. She lives half of each year in California, where she is president of the highly successful San Francisco Jewish Film Festival.
The Arts: Eva Hesse and her family evaded the Nazis and arrived in the U.S. in 1939. JFEW assistance helped her finish Cooper Union and continue her studies at Yale's School of Art and Architecture. Her sculpture made her a pivotal figure in postwar international art. Her work has been presented in solo shows at the Yale University Art Gallery, The Jewish Museum, London's Tate Gallery, among others.
Medicine: Dr. Lonnie Zeltzer is director of the Pediatric Pain Program at UCLA's Children's Hospital. She works with children suffering from cancer. She is also professor at psychiatry, anesthesiology, behavioral science and pediatrics at UCLA School of Medicine. We had the pleasure of reading an extended quote from her in the New York Times recently.
Our alumnae are committed to supporting the next generation of JFEW scholars. Each year several women receive scholarships made possible by alumnae contributions. Many alumnae give generously of their time and experience through the JFEW Mentor Program.
If you are one of our alumnae, we would like to know what you are doing. Please help us by completing this brief alumnae questionnaire. If you move, be sure to send us your new address!
