T
he JFEW Mentor Program provides scholarship recipients in our Disadvantaged Teens program with advice on career choices, goals and advancement in their chosen profession. The program is enormously helpful to our scholarship recipients, many of whom are the first in their family to go to college.
Scholarship recipients are matched with alumnae who have volunteered to serve as mentors. The diversity of mentors means that students have an opportunity to meet with experienced professionals in medicine, finance, law, journalism, theater/entertainment, academia, business and other fields. Many alumnae have given generously of their time and provided invaluable guidance, and we thank them on behalf of their mentees.
Alumna Mentors meet with students over the summer when students are not in classes. Mentors serve as role models, and introduce students to the professional world. Each mentor can structure the meetings as formally or informally as she wishes.
JFEW also hosts several workshops for the students, which help them with their résumés and assist them to hone their networking abilities, follow-up skills and professionalism.
