How to Apply: Schools and Nonprofits

We work closely with partner institutions to create programs that meet high academic and professional standards.

Application Instructions and Deadlines

The application process begins with a letter of inquiry. JFEW's grant cycle for the 2013-14 academic year is now closed. The Foundation will be considering letters of inquiry for scholarship programs at the associates, bachelors and graduate levels in the following areas in fall 2013 to begin in the 2014-15 academic year:

  • Health professions
  • Math, science and technology
  • Aging society
  • Public and communal service

JFEW Program Characteristics

JFEW scholarship programs create cohorts of students with similar academic or career interests. At the undergraduate level, our programs frequently combine scholarship funds with professional development opportunities, such as workshops or summer internship stipends, to prepare students for postgraduate life in their area of study and for the workforce. At the graduate level, our programs provide scholarship support and opportunities for students to meet with others in similar professions as colleagues and mentors.  JFEW does not pay for fringe benefits or overhead.

Letter of Inquiry Requirements

Letters of inquiry may be up to three pages, plus a budget. They should take into account the characteristics of our programs and include the following information:

  • Selection criteria and process for intended scholarship recipients, which should be consistent with JFEW’s eligibility requirements and include a minimum GPA of at least 3.0
  • Graduation rates of students with these criteria
  • Job placement rates of students who graduate with these criteria
  • Profiles of typical students in the program and examples of what they do when they graduate
  • How the program will create a cohort of scholarship recipients
  • Proposed programming, summer internships or supportive services for the cohort, and how this will contribute to student growth and development
  • Method of program evaluation

Deadline

JFEW is no longer accepting submissions for grants to begin in the 2013-14 academic year. Submissions will be reviewed in fall 2013 for the 2014-15 academic year. A deadline will be posted in May. Meanwhile, please direct any questions to info@jfew.org.
